ARTIST INTERVIEW: Alexis Smart Flower Remedies
Alexis Smart founded her practice in 2004 out of a desire to help people reconnect to happiness and peace of mind. Since childhood, inspired by the folk remedies of her Irish grandmother, Alexis has been interested in the healing power of plants, and the power of the individual to heal themself.
She discovered homeopathy and flower remedies through the pioneering work of Dr. Edward Bach. After a profoundly positive and life changing experience, she began to learn everything she could about the transformative healing system. What began as a passion for helping family and friends has grown into a successful practice with clients all over the world. We spoke to Alexis about her creative process and inspirations.
What is your background and how have your past experiences fed into your art?
Before I became a flower remedy practitioner, my background was in acting and writing. I love stories and characters and I am endlessly fascinated by human nature. This same curiosity is what makes me so interested in understanding where someone has become stuck and needs to heal.
Do you feel that your environment feeds into work and if so, what makes your work distinctively Californian?
My environment plays a big part in my work. I have a sunny little treehouse cottage with lots of light. It’s the perfect place to see clients and dream up my formulas. Growing up in California, I was exposed early on to the magic of nature and and the incredible healing of plant medicine and this is the biggest influence on my work.
What are your top 3 studio essentials?
My cleansing flower remedy room spray (I use it between clients to clear the energy)
Good pens and legal pads (I take copious notes during sessions and have to write long hand)
Tea! I love English breakfast with honey and half and half and can’t make it past 3pm without it.
