Beatrice Valenzuela and Rachel Craven founded the Echo Park Craft Fair in 2009. They visualized a space that would showcase and nurture the talented artisans, designers and craftspeople that live in their inspired neighborhood on the eastside of Los Angeles. Originally held in Valenzuela’s backyard, the Echo Park Craft Fair has grown into a popular bi-annual arts and design event, now held at the historic 5,000 square foot Mark Sennett studios in Silverlake, CA.

The most recent Echo Park Craft Fair hosted over 3000 guests and featured 70 artists selling everything from jewelry to clothing, ceramics to weavings, fresh flowers to cold-pressed organic juices. “We want to showcase artists working in all kinds of mediums,” explains Valenzuela, whose own line of handmade shoes has blossomed since the fair’s inception. “The idea was always about inclusiveness. The more we help each other the stronger we become.”

As attendance grows, the Echo Park Craft Fair’s intimate garden party origins can still be felt, a testament to the pair’s shared aesthetic, that Craven, an interior designer and textile artist, describes as, “relaxed, artful California bohemian.”

“We love everything that adds beauty to life,” inserts Valenzuela. “We like things that are timeless, feminine and made with integrity. We’re always looking for invigorating experiences that inspire us and we love to share that inspiration with our peers.”

The Echo Park Craft Fair has been featured in the LA Times, Daily Candy, Refinery 29 and the LAist. The next event will be held on May 10th and 11th.
